It’s Official…

Up until a week or so ago, things were kinda iffy.  No ring had been produced.  Well, it definitely took a while; we had the ring made.  And it really is a beautiful ring.  Simple and elegant.  But, nothing is perfect.  Deb originally requested it be made in yellow gold.  Silly me, I gave the jeweler the picture (it is a Cartier design) and the picture was in white gold or platinum.  That’s how Mike from the jewelry store made it. How did this Happen?

by ~ June 1st, 2011

Welcome to our website! I’m not much on blogging – though I enjoy reading them – but since this website is “ours” (and Duane and his sister are both bugging me to post) I guess I’d better post something myself.

I’m still walking around in a daze, because after more than 10 years of hearing Duane say “I did that before and it didn’t work out” and similar things, I never thought he’d actually propose. Well, he did, and here we are.

How and where and when? Was it all I’d hoped for? Well, I read all those sappy novels, so the bar (at least in my mind) was set pretty high, but he did a good job! First, we were in Mammoth for a long Valentine’s weekend ski trip. He’d made a reservation for our favorite restaurant in Mammoth – Petra’s. (Andy and Ann if you are reading this, we went there with you) He reserved the sofa table by the fireplace, too! We were sitting there talking and somehow the conversation came around to Duane’s mom, with whom I was very close for the short time I knew her before she died. So Duane says “speaking of my mom, she really loved you. I love you, too, and I think she’d want you to have these. Will you marry me?” (Or something very close to that…) and he handed me a small jewelry box with the most perfectly beautiful diamond earrings. His dad had gone out and bought them for his mom as a surprise. I guess Duane and Dana (his sister for those who don’t know) had planned this out because she had the earrings and sent them to him. Forest Chapel…

by Duane ~ May 28th, 2011
In La-La land, spring has sprung.  If you look at my facebook page I’ve got some great pictures of a family of  House Wrens who’ve taken up residence in the wren house we hung off our balcony a couple years ago.  But in Mammoth, it’s a different story.

We were in Mammoth on Easter weekend; it’s the closing weekend for the east side of the mountain.  They stop the lifts at Eagle and Canyon after Easter; usually because the snow is waning, and of course because it’s economically unfeasible to run the lifts when the crowds, like the snow, wane and there are fewer people.   Usually, right about Easter, the mountain holds the annual ‘Pond Skim’ where crazy skiers and snowboarders wear costumes (some of them very skimpy…) and rush down the hill on their skis and boards to a (man made) pond of water in front of Canyon lodge where they skim (or not) across the water in hopes of making it to the other side of the pond.  Usually a goodly number of the participants are successful.  This year it was windy, snowing, and cold and for whatever reason, a goodly number of the participants were unsuccessful.  They ended up in the water freezing their asses off.  It was so cold this year I didn’t even bring a camera, but in the past I’ve taken a few good pics (including one where one well endowed young lady lost her bikini top) of the dubious event.
