The Ring…

by Duane ~ May 22nd, 2011

Always liked Tolkien’s ring story:

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky.
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all,
and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

-JRR Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

This is the story of another kind of ring though.  So, isn’t the ring supposed to come first before anything else?  You might think so.  Not so much in our case.  After I popped the big question, Deb and I talked about the ring.  It really is HER ring, but then I like to think of myself as the jewelry expert.  I’ve dabbled in colored and semi-precious stones for years, but she keeps asking “…And which finger will YOU be wearing this ring on?…” Continue reading »

Planning a Wedding…

by Duane ~ May 22nd, 2011

This wedding stuff is not easy.

Where will it be?  When will it be?  Who do we invite?  How much does it cost?

Well, and then there are details beyond the big questions.  How bout the ring?  What about the venue?  Will we have everyone go to the top of the Mountain?  What about weather?  Where will everyone stay?   Are there other things for people to do and see?

At least we’re getting some help from the Mammoth Mountain Wedding Planner.  Jennifer Ziegler has been really helpful on a number of occasions.  Unfortunately, often (because she’s the expert) we get overwhelmed because she has more questions than answers.

Well, so it goes.  We’ll keep you posted!

Endless Winter…

by Duane ~ May 16th, 2011

On FB the other day, Mammoth Mountain posted a new term: May-bruary.  Thus far (and yes it is ONLY May) Mammoth mountain has had more snow than any previously monitored season.   If, like us, you love to ski, you might say Halelujah.  If, on the other hand, you’re trying to arrange a wedding in Mammoth, it might be a a very cold, snowy wedding.  In July.

The people we’ve talked to from the mountain are now saying they may keep a lift or two running until AUGUST.  Now I’ve heard that people have skied the top in August in the past, but c’mon folks, our little chapel in the woods may not be available next July due to snow.  So, if you’re going to join us, bring your parka and some snowshoes…

Sheesh!
